I’d like to get your input on new features, bugs that you’ve found and more. I can’t promise that I’m going to implement all of the features or that I’m going to make them available in version 1.0, but I’ll do my best.
I’m currently planning to create a version 2.0 with a lot more features which I might not make available for free anymore. But currently I’m not planning to pull VLM 1.0 off the market soon. And smaller improvements (especially support for more autoresponders) will surely make their way into version 1.
So it’s not the usual “give away something for free and everything else costs tons of money”
What would you like to see? Appreciate your comments and suggestions (and bugs)

First of all thanks and here are some suggestions;
- Password reset for users
- Multi-Level rewards (ex. 1 reward when they reach 3 referrals, another when they reach 5 referrals)
And I’ll come back if I think of more, thanks again.
- Ability to change where the referral link redirects to.
Just have them enter their name and email.
Password is generated randomly as a hidden form — users will have to create a password in Aweber. In Aweber, it’s and the value will be a random password.
Both the password fields will go both inside the “users” table and as a field for the autoresponder software (i.e. Aweber).
Thus, Aweber collects 3 fields (name, email, and password).
I think being able to put the sign up form on another page would be an excellent feature (as we’ve discussed). And probably more importantly, removing the password field on the initial sign-up form and have it auto generated and sent in the Thank you email. This could be vitaly important to the success of the script. I haven’t done any split testing but I’m fairly certain if there was just an email field (maybe a name field too) that the opt in rate would skyrocket.
Great job! Really think you’re making big improvements to what was GKLM. Any chance you’ll realease this as a WordPress plug-in? I’d love to be able to use this as a side-bar opt-in widget. Many thanks!
I’m looking at a WordPress plugin option but that’s really a huge task so I don’t know if I’m going to release it soon (if at all).
Anyways, it never “was GKLM” – not a single byte is based on the GKLM
The asset folder is not being found when you install in a sub directory.
So when you upload images you only get the “ALT” text.
What file do I need to change so the right path to the image folder is found?
I was having this same problem in the CSS when changing the header image but added the sub directory to the image path and it changed immediately.
BTW, GKLM was a complete joke and just a ploy by FK to increase his sales.
I do not think he ever intended for it to be anything useful to people that did not pay the $2000 to his program.
This software Sascha developed puts GKLM to shame.
I can confirm this bug, will be fixed in the upcoming release 1.04. I apologize for the many new releases but I’m trying to fix bugs as soon as possible and allow simple updating of an installed version (if you have only changed contents under system/customize or none at all).
That is what releasing new software is all about. The more testing that is performed on it the better it becomes!!!
This is absolutely great!
Thanks for the great work, I hope you become very rich soon!
Can’t wait for the new version to come out so I can get it setup and building a larger list.
Thanks again!
After upgrading to 1.4 my install will no longer connect to the database and there is also no way to access the admin panel to verify your database configuration.
this is the error:
Unable to connect to the database server “localhost”. The server replied: “Access denied for user ‘virallistmachine’@'localhost’ (using password: YES)”
I think there may be a problem with the way that the password is stored on the database configuration. Try reinserting the password. At least that worked for me!
Hi Travis, did you install the 1.04 upgrade over an existing 1.03 install? Unpacking the 1.04 upgrade does not replace or overwrite the system/customize/settings/db.inc.php file which is where the database server, username and password are stored. In fact no upgrade touches any file in system/customize/settings directory (because it contains the files you can customize).
I just wiped it out and started over. I couldn’t get 1.4 to work even with a clean install so I just went back to 1.3 and all is well again.
Hey Sascha, installed the 1.03 version of the script, now when I go to the /admin folder to log in it says 404 not found? the login.php page is not on my server or in the installation file.
Also, I went to do a fresh install with 1.04 but when u log in and click on the link it downloads 1.03?
Sorry, I had to remove the 1.04 version temporarily from the server because it contained the db.inc.php file which stored database connection data and is created by setup automatically. I’ve removed it and changed the theme back to the default theme.
Sorry for any inconveniences this has caused – you can now download version 1.04a with the fixes.
Regarding your problem: the admin folder and login.php are both in the ZIP package so I’m a bit confused. Did you upload all of the files to your server?
Yes, i uploaded the zip and extracted it there. Both server and package have an admin folder, neither has a login.php file in the folder, only the member login in the main folder
Downloaded 1.04, no login page in the admin folder, will try fresh install anyway. What is the default admin login URL? Going to the admin folder, redirects to login.php which does not exist. Hope u can help, I liked GKLM as soon as I saw it, and this is 10 times better
There is only one login.php file – there is no need for more
After unpacking version 1.04a and accessing it via the URL you are redirected automatically to the setup page (/admin/index.php).
Only after the initial database configuration is done you can (and have to) login which is then /login.php.
Great that you like the VLM
Mate that’s all working now, but when I go to the home page it keeps going to the setup page where you put in the database details, how do I stop that? Do I delete the admin/index.php page or is there some setting I’ve missed? I can’t find anything in the videos.
Well, you are still logged in as admin so you just need to logout (bottom right corner) to see the normal page a user would see if he’s not logged in.
Obviously I forgot to explain that, sorry.
Great work! I have a couple suggestions…I have ViralInviter, which is very nice except that it can only be used for 1 site. Since I have many affiliate sites, it is of limited use. So having the ability to place ViralListMachine on multiple sites & to change the bribe & track stats independently would be great.
Also, a nice feature of both ViralInviterPro & of FreeTellAFriend.com (great script to check out) is the ability to utilize an import feature for the user’s email addresses, which would encourage them to enter many more emails with the click of their mouse. They also both allow for use of social media to spread the word…twitter, myspace, facebook, etc. You may want to go check out the sites indicated. This funtionality would be tremendous!
Thanks again for all your hard work. This thing is awesome!
You can install multiple instances of the VLM on one server – just use a different subdirectory for every installation.
The VLM (just like the GKLM) doesn’t allow users to send emails via your server directly on purpose because this way someone could use your server to send SPAM to others. That’s why it doesn’t make sense in my opinion to include a feature to import addresses because the user won’t be able to send emails through your server using VLM – instead it is meant to be used (on purpose) for the user to send emails to his friends directly using his own email account.
Integrating links to social media to allow easy spreading of the link is something I’m looking forward to implement.
I cannot seem to get this working on either of the 2 different domains I tried. I tried a sub-directory and in the root. After trying to login for the first time, after the database gets setup I get redirected to /admin and its a 404. Even though I can see the files there. Can you give me version 1.03 so I can try that?
Hi Taylor, I’m sorry about your problems but I can’t reproduce them. Could you please send the output of the following script (save this as debug.php on your server and access it via http://..) to “info” at “thisdomain” so I can look into it? Might be some problem with the PHP CGI module and how it’s used by your web host.
<?php
echo "<pre>";
var_dump($_SERVER);
?>
Having problems logging into the admin section after a logout.
Specifically, when I go to login as admin, I’m directed to the new user login screen.
When I access admin/index.php, it tries to redirect to admin/login.php, which doesn’t exist, giving me a 404.
I’ve reinstalled your script 5 times, recreating my database on Bluehost 3 times.
Beyond frustrated! Encountered similar problems with GKLM, so I’m assuming it must be my fault.
Please, can you help? I have a large amount of new traffic I want to capitalize on, and this is holding me back.
To login as the admin user you have to use the same login form the normal user has to use – I just thought it doesn’t make sense to have two login forms. So that should actually work – just don’t try to access /admin/ if you’re not logged in as this will redirect you to the non-existing /admin/login.php.
There is no separate admin login – if you login with the admin account on the “Member Login” page you’ll be redirected to the admin panel immediately.
Sorry if this has caused some confusion.
If you send me the URL via email (info at this domain) I can test it.
Sascha! It worked! I just supplied my generated admin ID (not email address), and my password, and boom! Back in business!
Thank you soooooo much! I’ve been beating my head against the wall on this for 4 days now!
Hi Sascha I downloaded version 1.04a unzipped on my domain (www.lancamentoweb.com) when going to it via a browser I get the following error message.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘{‘ in /homepages/18/d284481900/htdocs/lw/index.php on line 3
because of that I cannot set the VLM up. can you please help?
Hi Erico,
if you’re getting this error there seems to have been a problem unpacking the ZIP file as the index.php is damaged (it’s a parse error).
You should try to unpack the ZIP file again or upload the individual files (that’s a lot!) to your server. That should help.
I just did it (unzip and than upload each of the files). I get the same issue
Not sure where to go anymore…
Ps. Did you receive the email I sent to info at this domain dot net? it was about some some potential custom work…
You’re not trying to install it on a server that only supports PHP4, right?
I just found out that despite my attempt to present a wonderful error message if installed on a PHP 4 server the code wouldn’t be parsed up to there. This is what you should read when trying to install the VLM on a PHP4 system:
PHP Version Too Old
Your PHP version is too old to run this software.
You need at least PHP 5.0.0, but you are using …
Please don’t ask if there is any fix to make it work on PHP < 5. There is none.
You'd have to reimplement the complete system for PHP 4 support.
PHP 4 is dead, please upgrade to PHP 5 for your own security.
this might be it. I was not aware I was on Php4. Doing a new account and installing on a php5 server.
Thanks!
Sascha,
Is it possible to completely disable the sign-up email sent by the VLM? Looking at it from my market’s position, it would seem silly to receive an email that tells them to look for another email.
I’d like to just use Aweber’s confirmation, bypassing the VLM system sign-up email altogether.
Is this possible?
This looks interesting, being that is one of the few tell a friends scripts that would be allowed by Aweber. Perhaps you can implement social sharing buttons and hyper link the referral link to those sites (aka Facebook, Twitter). So the user would just click the link to share on those site via their status update and not have to copy and paste, (which many people wont do).
Hi, this will be implemented in VLM2/Pro.
Hi, this will definetly be implemented in VLM2/Pro and I’m looking to implement it in V1.05 as well because it really makes sense (although it’s the same way as in the GKLM).
Hi Sasha,
What is your timeframe for releasing 1.05 or version 2?
I’m currently thinking about a Q2 release date.
If anyone is interested I have created a clickbank product that focuses on incentive driven list building using Viral list Machine. If you are interested in promoting it you can sign up as an affiliate here. It is called:
Viral List Explosion

Affiliate tools:

I also created 18 themes for VLM and will have a buy page set up in the next few day for anyone interested in themes other than default.
Interested in themes before hand email me at travis@e-bizreview.com and let me know.
Travis
Sascha, Thanks for putting this all together. Couple of requests. Room for a few more links on the bottom where the terms is. One for contact, etc. Perhaps it can be set up so we can label them. Is it easy to set up a “lost my password” function? In advanced versions, can you set up a couple of paid sections that we can process through a paypal “buy now” button? Oh, and a way to remove a member if for any reason we find that necessary.
Keep up the great work. We all appreciate it!
Matt
Matt, thanks for your suggestions.I’ll see what I’m going to implement with VLM PRO. The “lost password” function will be available with version 1.05 which I’m probably going to release on May 1st.
Oh, cool! I just noticed that it’s kinda cool to release version 1.05 on the first of May
Sascha, AWESOME content good sir. Here is my request. When someone fills out an opt-in form on my website, I want to send them an email from Aweber (already done)… with a link to a video of me giving stuff away and explaining the viral list machine.
My request is that I can send a link in my email to a subdomain. A reply here or a private message would be appreciated. Thanks.
strike that… figured it out!
Hey Sascha,
I noticed that in the control panel for VLM, the “users list” is not being updated. It only shows 12 users when actually about 40 or so have signed up since I’ve installed VLM. Any ideas?
The users page actually pulls the user data directly on-demand from the database – there is no caching involved and the page is not generated in some way. Have you compared the number of users displayed in the VLM with the number of users in the database?
There’s only 12 users in my database too. It appears that it stopped writing to the database right after I installed version 1.04 on April 14th (that’s the last date it shows a user registered). I never changed anything so i don’t know why it would have stopped. Any ideas?
Is it possible to signup on your website? I doubt that it’s possible because then there would be more users on your website. I recommend upgrading to the latest 1.05 version.
I am running version 1.05. It just stopped working apparently after i upgraded to 1.04. I just didn’t catch it until now. It let me sign up, but after I confirm my subscription, it takes me to a page that says “Sorry, There was a problem activating your account. Please try again later”. Everything still works perfectly on the aweber side, its just not adding them to the database on the VLM side.
